SubnetMapper V1.2

Online Documentation File

This Text file documents some of the features of this program.

It should be mostly self explanatory. Whatever, the Buttons and dialogs special to this program will be explained in the following text.

Above you can see a screenshot of a default document window of SubnetMapper. You can have multiple maps open at once. By clicking on a subnet (its rectangular representation on the map) it will be selected and its border will appear red. to deselect a subnet just click anywhere on the map, either selecting another subnet or deselecting all subnets. You can also click on any of the listed subnets just below of the map to select a subnet.

The following functions are available:

Save: this button saves your map to a file. You can open it using the standard methods like doubleclicking on a saved file or using the open file menu item.

Print: I guess this button just prints out the map. Maybe some times it will do something else, who knows?

Add: this button adds a new subnet. it will open a new dialog which will be documented farther down in this document.

Remove: this button removes the selected subnet. You can select a subnet by simply clicking on its rectangular representation.

Edit: this button edits the selected subnet. You can select a subnet by simply clicking on its rectangular representation on the map.

Color: this button changes the color of the selected and following subnets.

Show Info: this button expands a drawer which will display the data of the currently selected subnet.

host search: You can search a single host by its ip or multiple hosts by DNS Name to locate the subnet they reside in. Resulting hosts will be marked with a little pin, which can be removed by issuing a new search or by using the remove pin button or through the context menu.

Below you can see the dialog which will enable you add a new subnet. You can enter the ip address of your net here and specifiy the CIDR-based or classic subnet notation by using the stepper button. the dialog itself will make sure both values will be in sync at any time. By checking the checkbox you can use a default identifier for your new subnet which will be the subnet address you have entered in CIDR notation. the Identifier of a subnet is the data which is rendered into the rectangle on the map. The description field will be shown in the listing beneath the map. The currently maximal size for a subnet is /12. I would not know why anyone would map a net that big, but, hey it works, so why not? Everything below would decrease application performance significantly, so it is disabled.

You have the ability to enter further notes for a subnet into the notes field, which is a fully capable rich-text editor whith many functions you are used to, mainly accessible through the context menu or through the main menu.

you are now able to edit the current subnet through doubleclick. Everyhing there will behave just as you are used to, I hope. You can refer to the add dialog documentation for field descriptions.

I know this is not much documentation but I hope it will help. Please contact me if you have questions or suggestions.
